Parkour
Parkour is a skill (or non-competitive sport thought by some) founded and honed in France by David Belle. The goal of parkour is to move through obstacles as quickly and efficiently as possible, to be able to escape any would-be assailant and catch anyone on the run. Something people have been trying to do from the beginning of time.
Running at full speed up, over, under, around and through obstacles is part of human nature and has been practiced across the globe and throughout history in one way or another. A major influence in the creating of parkour was George Hébert's "méthode naturelle." Hébert's method was created while traveling with the French Navy, observing different cultures, and became a standard of practice in the French military.
Identifying, organizing and naming parkour as a particular skill has allowed people to perfect parkour and take it to a level that seems at times almost super human. David Belle and a group of friends opened the door to this amazing skill. Below is an example:
A person who practices parkour is called a traceur or traceuse, and there are two schools of thought on how parkour should be done. One point of view is that parkour should be practiced for efficiency, quickness and natural simplicity for ultimate effectiveness. Another point of view, which is considered "freerunning or l'art du déplacement," the same idea of efficiency and quickness is first and foremost, but also acrobatic moves are added to make the traceur's movements more unpredictable and deceptive to the observer or pursuer.
Parkour and Freerunning:
Although parkour is generally practiced in an urban setting, there are no limits to where parkour can be utilized when trying to overcome obstacles. Many believe that by training the body to conquer all barriers through parkour techniques, one is also training the mind and spirit to look past limitations. In a world filled with obstacles, natural and manmade, is parkour one of the few paths to true freedom?
Now imagine learning parkour as a person who has the power to heal any injury.
